Briefly describe the nominated organization or individual: history and past performance (up to 1,250 characters):

Founded in 1938 with the mission of supporting SMEs, artisans, and Türkiye's national development, Halkbank is one of the country's most reputable financial institutions. For 86 years, it has played a pivotal role in advancing both the banking sector and the broader economy, offering innovative financial solutions to millions. In response to global digital disruption, Halkbank has made digitalization a central pillar of its strategy. Since 2020, the Bank's Digital Transformation Office has led this vision, managing initiatives across departments and embedding digital culture as a key enabler of agility and service excellence. This transformation is not limited to customer-facing innovations-it also encompasses a systematic overhaul of internal workflows and operational efficiency. Over the past three years, Halkbank has formally prioritized digitalization among its top four strategic focus areas, driving ambitious programs in artificial intelligence, paperless banking, and Robotic Process Automation(RPA). Recognizing that true transformation requires more than surface-level change, the Bank implemented RPA not merely as a cost-saving tool, but as a catalyst for end-to-end process modernization.

Outline the nominated achievements since July 1, 2023 that you wish to bring to the judges' attention (up to 1,500 characters):

With a robust governance structure and full cross-functional buy-in, Halkbank's RPA program has evolved into a critical engine of resilience, speed, and scalable operational capacity in an increasingly competitive and fast-moving market. Halkbank has strategically positioned Robotic Process Automation(RPA) as a cornerstone of its digital transformation journey, led by the Digital Transformation Office. Rather than treating automation as peripheral support tool, Halkbank integrates RPA into its core operational strategy to enhance speed, quality, and resilience. As of September 2024, 139 robotic processes are being executed through 62 robots, spanning 64% of all departments. These robots perform high-frequency, error-prone, and time-critical tasks across various units-including Tax Management, Treasury Operations, Customer Communication, and Branch Services-ensuring seamless 24/7 service continuity. Halkbank prioritizes automation in areas that:

  • Are repetitive and standardized
  • Involve high transaction volumes
  • Require minimal human decision-making
  • Pose operational risks if done manually
  • Contribute to paperless and ESG-aligned goals.

Key automated processes include tax notifications, DLAT approvals, inter-branch reconciliations, address updates and document management. These are critical, audit-sensitive workflows that demand speed and accuracy. The DLAT approval process alone involved four robots working simultaneously to handle high-volume workloads.

Explain why the achievements you have highlighted are unique or significant. If possible compare the achievements to the performance of other players in your industry and/or to the organization's past performance (up to 1,500 characters):

Beyond efficiency, RPA has transformed employee roles. Routine and monotonous tasks are now handled by robots, freeing up staff to engage in complex problem-solving and customer-facing tasks-improving both productivity and job satisfaction. Halkbank's approach is collaborative: each business unit identifies automation opportunities, and iterative feedback mechanisms support continuous improvement.

Furthermore, RPA contributes to sustainability by reducing paperwork and digitizing approvals, directly supporting the bank's "Paperless Banking" initiative. By embedding RPA into its operations, Halkbank has built a scalable, agile system that boosts efficiency and strengthens its role in Türkiye's banking sector. By the end of 2024, Halkbank had automated 139 business processes through 62 robots, completing more than 23.9 million robotic transactions and generating ₺80.6 million in personnel cost savings. This marks a significant leap from the ₺47 million cumulative savings reported by the end of 2023-a 72% year-over-year increase, proving the bank's ability to scale automation for meaningful financial return.

What distinguishes Halkbank's RPA strategy is its enterprise-wide integration and strategic depth. Unlike many institutions that confine RPA to IT-led pilots or simple data-entry tasks, Halkbank has embedded automation into mission-critical and regulation-intensive workflows. High-impact processes such as legal notifications (₺16.1M saved), DLAT approvals (₺10.2M), check processing, address updates, and branch reconciliations are now executed flawlessly, round-the-clock. With 64% of departments actively using robots, RPA at Halkbank is not an isolated initiative, but a core pillar of digital transformation. Its governance by the Digital Transformation Office ensures that automation aligns with broader goals like risk reduction, compliance, employee productivity, and customer satisfaction. This approach delivers more than cost savings. Robots minimize operational errors, ensure consistent process quality, and enable faster customer service. Employees, relieved from repetitive tasks, now focus on higher-value responsibilities, improving engagement and agility. In terms of scale, complexity, and institutional commitment, Halkbank's RPA program is now a national benchmark, demonstrating how intelligent automation can drive sustainable business value, operational resilience, and future-readiness across the financial sector.
